Memorial Information Board for the 1953 Floods
It was my great pleasure to create an information board for the Harwich Floods memorial garden which underwent a recent redesign to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1953 North Sea flood, launched on the anniversary this Wednesday 1st February 2023.
The sign was made from laser cut mild steel, to my design – created to reflect the stormy seas that night! It was really moving reading about the drama which unfolded and those who lost their lives that night as I was designing it and editing the copy.
I coordinated three teams of manufacturers and finishers help me create the sign, printed lightfast info panels, metal backing board and finishing, and the final sign is 3m by 1m so quite large and heavy!
The local District Council team fitted the sign, in pride of place in the newly refurbished memorial garden in Harwich, and appropriately you can see the lifeguards building in the background.
The garden was re-launched on February 1st 2023, with a church service, dedication and lunch for all those involved in the project.
If you want to pay it a visit, you can find the garden behind the seafront in Harwich directly in line with the Coastguards building.
