Traditionally the New Year is the perfect time to reflect on what was achieved in the past year, and 2023 was a year of exciting new projects for The Public Art Company…
Stanway Totem
Creation of my first large scale public art installation, after many applications and proposals. The Stanway Totem, a five metre tall, Corten steel wayfinding sculpture as part of community engagement for a new community centre now stands on Western Bypass, Colchester.
A last minute application saw me taking on the event coordinator role for the 2023 Urban Tree Festival. The sixth in the series, it was great to work with the team to deliver 60 events, in London and beyond, plus an online series of webinars.
It was great to meet so many people including authors, educators, health professionals and artists passionate about encouraging and educating about the value of green spaces in our cities.
I was lucky enough to be commissioned by the North Pennines AONB and Fellfoot Forward to deliver the content for a series of six walking trails.
Staying locally I walked the walks and met with helpful locals who assisted me in developing content for the series of tourist trails – exploring the beautiful lakes, a reservoir, castle ruins and stunning woodlands (Coombs Wood was the highlight for me!)
The final walks will be available next year so watch this space! I can recommend a very reasonable place to stay, plus itinerary to do them all over four days if anyone wants a nice UK holiday recommendation!
Watch this space for more info and the finished leaflets!
Huge thanks to all my commissioners, local partners, trainees and of course my manufacturing crafts people for all their hard work!
I partner with local groups and charities to apply for project specific funding, and work with councils and boroughs on projects funded by leisure, tourism, marketing and section 106 funding.
